FReispiel / Mozartfest würzburg
(2025)
The MozartLabor is a young artists' program of the Mozartfest Würzburg. The scholarship culminated in two performances at Gut Wollried in June 2025, as part of the Freispiel series.
The project was a walking concert in three acts, exploring seeing, hearing, and everything in between, developed and performed by the MozartLabor scholars of 2024. Moving through different spaces, with video and spatial design shaping each room differently, the concert refused a fixed relationship between audience and performers.
The concerts were designed as relaxed performances, with deliberately loosened rules of attendance: all people are welcome, including those who cannot always remain still or quiet in conventional concert settings. For me, this format is not a concession but a statement about what concert spaces can and should be.
Across the three acts, I performed in different chamber constellations, including with guitarist Melani Skopljakovic, with whom I developed a sustained artistic dialogue over the course of the year. The project also brought together pianist Elisa Naufel, the inn.wien ensemble (Sophie Trobos, Xenia Rubin, Fridolin Schöbi, Rahel Rupprechter), with video and spatial design by Karsten Prühl and electronics and composition by Ahmetcan Gökçeer. The project was conceived collectively by the MozartLabor scholars, with Hendrik Felske and Rivka Orlitová leading the moderation and organization.
“Anyone who wanted to could cover their eyes with a sleep mask at one of the venues. The effect was powerful. Because even though singer Hannah Otto and guitarist Melani Skopljakovic weren’t visible, their presence felt enormous.”
